Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
