Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a prominent awards ceremony approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
